Soul-Care Over Self-Care: Honoring God by Caring for Yourself

In our community, the word “self-care” can sometimes feel foreign or even selfish. We are so used to being the nurturers, the prayer warriors, and the problem-solvers that we often put our own needs at the very bottom of an endless to-do list. But sister, I want to share a truth with you: self-care is not a luxury; it is a spiritual necessity.

Biblical Self-Care: Stewardship of the Temple

The Bible tells us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. Stewardship isn’t just about how we manage our finances or our time in ministry; it’s about how we care for the vessel God gave us. When we neglect our rest, our emotional health, and our physical well-being, we are essentially saying we know better than the Creator who designed us to need Sabbath.

Daily Soul-Care Habits for the Seasoned Woman

Nourishing your soul doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are a few daily habits to help you stay connected to God and yourself:

  • Morning Manna: Spend the first 15 minutes of your day in silence, prayer, or reading a Psalm before checking your phone.
  • Hydration and Gratitude: Every time you drink a glass of water, name one thing you are grateful for in this season of life.
  • The Creative Pause: Dedicate 10 minutes to a creative hobby—whether it’s sketching, journaling, or even arranging flowers—to honor the Creator’s spark in you.
  • Sacred Movement: Take a short walk and notice the beauty of God’s creation, allowing your body to move with grace and thanks.
  • Evening Release: Before bed, write down three things that weighed you down today and consciously “hand the pen” to God, leaving them in His care.

Moving Beyond the Surface

True self-care for the woman of faith goes deeper than a bubble bath. It’s about the intentional practice of sitting at the feet of Jesus, like Mary, and choosing the “better part.” It’s about setting boundaries that protect your peace and allow you to serve from a place of overflow rather than exhaustion.

Creative Soul-Care

At the Creative Healing Club, we believe that creativity is one of the most powerful forms of self-care. When you pick up a brush or a journal, you are giving yourself permission to be still, to listen, and to heal. You are honoring the creative spark God placed within you. Today, I challenge you to do one small thing that nourishes your soul. Remember, you cannot pour from an empty cup.
